Vienna man convicted of choking woman sentenced on perjury charge after lying about military service

VIENNA TWP., Ohio -

A Vienna man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to perjury.

Perjury is defined as lying while under oath.

Kotey Paden, 32, was given an 18-month prison term which he'll serve concurrently with his previous sentence on charges of strangulation, domestic violence and child endangerment.

Paden's strangulation, child endangerment and domestic violence charges stem from a 2023 incident where Paden struck a woman and choked her while she was holding her son at his home.

During his trial, Paden testified that he was a combat veteran and served in the U.S. military overseas. However, a tip alerted the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office to holes in his testimony and it was discovered that he lied about serving overseas and was dishonorably discharged because of criminal offenses.

He is on the veteran's docket for a felony case in Mahoning County involving an aggravated vehicular assault.

Paden was indicted in April 2024 on the perjury charge.
