Explosives training to be conducted at Camp James A. Garfield in Newton Falls

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio -

According to a release, residents and businesses owners may notice and increase in blast noise from the area of Camp James A. Garfield in Newton Falls.

Explosives training is set for May 1 through May 4 at Camp James A. Garfield.

According to the release, explosives will be used during training conducted by the Ohio Army National Guard's 811th Engineer Company, known as sappers.

The planned explosives training helps to maintain engineer soliders' demolition skills and increases military readiness, simulating realistic battle conditions.

According to the release, army sappers are skilled in a variety of military engineering duties, including:

  • Minefield placement or clearing
  • Bridge-building
  • Demolitions
  • Field defenses
  • Road and airfield construction

Sounds may be heard farther away than what occurs during normal operations, according to the release.
