East Palestine community honors firefighters past and present

EAST PALESTINE, Ohio -

The East Palestine community honored the village's firefighters during their annual memorial service Wednesday night.

The East Palestine Firefighters Association puts on the ceremony every year to honor firefighters and their families who are no longer with the department.

"They're the ones who built this," Rick Gorby, East Palestine Firefighters Association Chief, said. "You have to honor them and everything they've done when you're doing what we're doing."

The event is also a way to bring the community together and remind them of the importance of thanking those who protect their neighborhoods.

The ceremony honored roughly 150 firefighters who have since passed during their time at the department.
