Water bottles sold at Walmart recalled after blinding two people

Around 850,000 water bottles sold at Walmart have been recalled after reports of two people going blind from them.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), about 850,000 Ozark Trail 64-ounce stainless steel insulated water bottles are affected by this recall.

The bottles have been sold both in stores and online since 2017 for about $15 apiece. Products with the model number 83-662 are affected by the recall. The model number can be found on the bottle's packaging, but not the bottle itself.

The CPSC says the lid of the bottle can forcefully eject when a user attempts to open it after food, carbonated beverages or perishable beverages like juice or milk are stored in it over time.

So far, Walmart has received three complaints of people being hit in the face by the lid when opening the bottle with two of those people suffering permanent vision loss afterwards.

If you have purchased one of these recalled bottles, you're asked to stop using it and contact Walmart for a full refund. You can bring the bottle to your nearest Walmart store to receive the refund.
