Youngstown Flea to be moved outside ahead of building remediation

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN The Youngstown Flea announced an update on its Facebook profile regarding how the flea will look for the next while as the building undergoes remediation.

The Youngstown Flea is located at 365 East Boardman Street in Youngstown, inside a historical industrial site.

The reason for the change is that the building that houses the Youngstown Flea will be undergoing remediation for asbestos abatement, selective demolition and the removal of contaminated materials.

The project focuses mainly on potential asbestos within the window casings and the windows' glaze found in the building.

"This building alone that we're standing in front of has 2,710 individual window panes and so you have to have a plan of approach," said Derrick McDowell with the Youngstown Flea.

According to the post, vendors participating in the Youngstown Flea will be set up outdoors, and the building will be closed with the exception of the bathrooms located there.

The Youngstown Flea will still take place rain or shine.

In August of 2024, $2,680,371 was awarded to remediate the site.

A timeline for the completion of the remediation project has not been released as of yet, but the Youngstown Flea mentions in its post that the community's patience during the process is appreciated.

The next Youngstown Flea is scheduled for August 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
