YOUNGSTOWN Youngstown City Health District's vital statistics system will be down for several hours Wednesday, August 6.

The system will be down between 7:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday for statewide system updates from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). During this time, the vital statistics office will not be able to process birth and death certificates.

Additionally, cremation and burial permits will not be able to be approved, new death certificates cannot be entered into the Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS) and corrections and amendments cannot be made to existing birth or death certificates during the down period.

Once the system updates are completed, all functions of birth registration and issuance will be through ODH's new Ohio Vital Records System (OVRS) and its birth registration module and the EDRS will be back online for death registrations.

The retirement of the EDRS and the go-live of the new OVRS death registration model is expected to occur in October. Details will be communicated to current EDRS users closer to that time.
