WARREN Two Warren men face federal firearms charges in connection with a shooting at a convenience store that left one person dead and another injured.
U.S. Attorney David M. Toepfer announced on Wednesday that 32-year-old Jumal Ellis Rowe, and Rayjon Ray Mcelroy, 25, were arrested following an investigation into the Aug. 3 shooting at a Convenient Food Mart.
Rowe is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, and Mcelroy is charged with possessing ammunition after a previous conviction for a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. If convicted, each man could face up to 15 years in federal prison.
According to a criminal complaint affidavit, Warren police and the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office responded to the store after receiving reports of multiple gunshots and a person with gunshot wounds.
Surveillance video showed several people playing a dice game outside the store around 5 a.m. before a fight broke out. The dispute escalated into a mass shooting in the parking lot, officials said. One person, identified in a separate indictment as David Owens III, died, and another was wounded.
The affidavit alleges that investigators identified Rowe and Mcelroy from the surveillance footage. Mcelroy was allegedly seen with a Kel-Tec Sub 2000, 5.7 caliber folding firearm. Rowe was allegedly seen shooting at others from between two parked vehicles with a Glock, Model 23Gen4, .40 caliber, semi-automatic pistol.
Separately, 23-year-old Savion Woodall was indicted on a murder charge in connection with Owens' death. He also faces charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm in liquor permit premises, and other weapons violations.
