CANFIELD - U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) spent part of his Sunday at the Canfield Fair.

Moreno arrived at the fair around noon and made his way to the Mahoning County Republican Party tent before touring the fairgrounds and speaking with constituents.

Moreno said the visit to Canfield is a great way to connect with voters.

"This is an opportunity to come out, listen to people, what's on their minds, what's important to them, what are they thinking about, how are they feeling, to take those thoughts back to D.C. to make good policy," Senator Moreno said.

21 News asked Moreno for any updates about the Insight-Steward hospital issues in Trumbull County, and the senator hinted at some good news.

"We're really close," Moreno told 21 News. "I think that in the next thirty days, we're gonna see a big announcement. We've got to get those hospitals back up and running. Of course, you never know until it's done, but we've cleared all the hurdles on the federal side, so now it's really up to the company to come in and make it happen. It's really important to the Valley that we do that," Moreno says.

Moreno also outlined the general priorities for the Valley going forward, saying, "Look, we're bringing jobs back. I mean, the Valley knows what happened with bad trade policies. The companies that left us because of normalization with China, because of USMCA, and strengthening NAFTA, which took a lot of jobs out of the Valley. It's all about bringing jobs and opportunities here so that a mom or a dad can have one job and provide for their family. Own a home, own a car, be able to retire with dignity. That's what we're working on every day in D.C."

Moreno ended the interview, encouraging residents to come out to the fair, enjoy the weather and get to know their neighbors.
