Museum's 39th Holiday Arts and Crafts Show

Event at the Butler Institute in Youngstown Funds Free Children's Programs

The Butler Institute of American Art will present the 39th Annual American Holiday Arts and Crafts Show and Sale Saturday, December 5th from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, December 6th from 10 am to 4 pm. The much-loved holiday event occurs at the Butler Institute, located at 524 Wick Avenue. Admission is $5 for adults with children under 12 admitted free of charge. Free parking in nearby YSU decks will be available. The show offers 100 vendors (35 of whom are first-time participants), entertainment, great food and more! Sponsors for the event include: Joe Dickey Electric, Dr. & Mrs. Hai-Shiuh Wang, Clearchannel Youngstown, The Vindicator, WFMJ TV-21, and Winslow's Café by Antone's. The Butler's annual holiday show and sale will again feature some of the best in fine art and original, one of a kind crafts. One hundred vendors will present items to fill any and all holiday gift-giving needs. Painting, Photography, Jewelry, Paper, Ceramics, Fragrances, Wood, Leather, Fiber, Food, Horticulture, and Decorative Arts are included. Here are some highlights.

SELECTED NEW VENDORS :

• Colleen Gettemy Hathaway (Bowling Green. KY), a graduate of Cardinal Mooney, makes art quilts using fabric, threads, yarns & beads;

• Melissa Smith, (East Palestine, OH), creates nature inspired soy candles in classic elegant containers utilizing recycled packaging and essential oils;

• Joseph Wasko and Tony Naples (Jamestown, PA.) casts real leaves in concrete;

• Evian Zukas-Oguz (Grove City, PA) makes fiber art to wear using hand and machine knits, crochet, felting, weaving, and dying;

• Cheryl Summers, (Poland, OH) creates acrylic mixed media paintings;

• Daniel Horne (Girard, Ohio) will present scrap sculpture, welded steel that is also kinetic:

• Jim Shreves & Vickie Nutter (Pullman, WVA) make wooden kitchen utensils, all hand gouged sand hand directed pieces each made individually from white oak; RETURNING FAVORITES

• Debbie Dory (North Lima, OH) is a show favorite who will again present her live decorated boxwood trees, centerpieces and decorations.;

• Marina Schaum (East Liverpool, OH) will sell her distinctive seasoning blends, creams, lotions lip balms, scented powders and teas.

• Carl & Ruth Jennings (Brookfield, OH ) are world-renowned for their Faberge style egg creations, and have been regulars at the Butler holiday event for many years. Each piece by the Jennings begins with an ostrich egg, but the similarities end there as no two pieces are exactly the same;

• Barry Jeter (Pittsburgh, PA) returns to the show this year with his original watercolors, oils and limited edition fine art reproductions that offer an opportunity to own or give an original works at a reasonable cost;

• Stewart Webb (Darlington, PAQ) will sell wearable art made from recycled electronic materials. Works range from necklaces, pins and earrings, to clocks and desktop sculptures;

• Berni K. Koczwara (Youngstown, OH) will offer prints and greeting cards based upon his original paintings;

• C. Scott Lanz (Youngstown, OH) will sell his original photographic prints (framed and unframed), as well as note cards, holiday cards, and calendars featuring his work;

• Ron Meade (Sharpsville, PA) is known for his hand tooled leather work which is dyed, shaded, and inlaid with rich color;

• David Misalko (Boardman, OH) returns again to the Butler show with original watercolors, limited edition lithographs, and giclée prints;

• William Morrison (Pulaski, PA) creates wooden toys, benches, shelves, doll furniture and more. His highly collectible work has been included in the Butler show for many years;

• Lois Tullis,(Akron, OH) again brings handcrafted, all natural herbal soaps, body and home care products to the Butler show;

• Fred Ullom (Youngstown, OH) returns to the Butler show with his finely made hand woven scarves and shawls created with luxurious exotic fibers;

• Marilyn Fredenburg (Fowler, Ohio) makes sewn original handbags designs, using various textiles with attention to detail and professional quality;

• Donna Little (Greenville, PA.) designs and handcrafts pewter jewelry. Her work is hand-forged, textured, and fabricated with copper and brass;

• Kim Di Lalla (South Russell, OH) hand woven, knit, dyed processed fabrics made into wearable clothing accessories and hand woven knit bags. She also creates hand-cut silhouettes and pastel portraits.

OTHER ATTRACTIONS:

• Saturday and Sunday Mary Maendel from Alliance, Ohio will do face painting and glitter tattoos;

• Saturday at 11:00 young violin Suzuki players under direction of Gina Bagnoli will entertain:

• Jocko the Clown will entertain children and their families with skills at creating balloon animals from 11am to 1pm Sunday December 6th:

• Saturday at 1 pm the Mount Olive Baptist Church Male Chorus under the direction of Pastor Raymond O. Brown will perform.

• Sunday the St. Charles Choir performs at 12:30 pm and the Youngstown Connection at 2 pm:

• Sunday, December 6 from noon to 3pm from Cleveland's Bonfoey Company will be available for free fine art appraisals (limit two per person);

• The Butler's popular Museum Gift Shop will offer specialty merchandise from collectibles to cards and gifts based on the Institute's world-renowned collection, jewelry, Webkins® and other toys, and more. Take a chance on a gift basket and win tickets to the Covelli Center's Disney® on Ice;
