Boardman officials negotiate new gas rate

BOARDMAN, Ohio- Boardman residents who take part in the township's natural gas aggregation program will see lower bills as a result of a new agreement.

Township officials and supplier IGS Energy have agreed to a fixed rate of $6.39 per mcf from May through November 2010.

In a news release, township administrator Jason Loree said the new rate will be automatic.

"Residents and businesses currently in the program do not need to take any action as they will automatically receive this rate. Our expiring rate of $7.46 per mcf was an excellent rate for our residents this past winter and we are delighted to have been able to strike an even lower rate going forward," Loree said in the release.

Mark Burns, president of IGS Energy, said the natural gas rates are at a 6-7 year low, making the new rates possible.

Boardman residents who are not enrolled in the program can do so by calling IGS Energy at 1-800-280-4474.

Enrollees must be in good standing and cannot be a part of the Percentage of Income Payment Program.
