CLEVELAND, Ohio- The United States Marshals are bringing the idea of wanted posters into the high-tech age.
A new plan would allow residents in northeast Ohio to sign up to receive mug shots of fugitives being sought by the marshals via text message.
U.S. marshal Peter Elliot said the program, which is a partnership between the marshals and television station WKYC in Cleveland, will help make communities safer.
"This is just one more way that we can educate the community and potentially save lives," Elliot said in a news release.
The alerts will be sent out once a week, on Mondays.
