
MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio- Two months after being diagnosed with cancer, former Mahoning county sheriff Ed Nemeth has died.
Nemeth served as sheriff from 1985 to 1997, during which time two new jails were built and the department grew from 65 employees to 265.
Before being elected sheriff, Nemeth was a deputy, a lieutenant and a commander of the jail.
A graduate of Youngstown State University, Nemeth also held positions with General Motors in Oklahoma and as a risk manager for Schwebels.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Cunningham-Becker funeral home in Poland.
Funeral services will be held at Saint Columba Cathedral.
Nemeth was 62 years old.
