YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio- A historic marker in downtown Youngstown is restored due to the efforts of a California woman.
When Antonette Ferguson visited Youngstown, she was upset to find the plaque marking Powers Auditorium as the original Warner Theatre missing.
"This was erected in 1931. It was state of the art. Nothing was spared. The marble and tile work and the construction was something to look at and the family came in a dedicated it in 1931 and it will be 80 years old next year," Ferguson said.
The Warner brothers began their movie empire in Youngstown, before relocating to California.
Sam Warner died shortly after pioneering sound in motion pictures.
The marker had been broken during a wind storm and was being stored in the basement of the DeYor Performing Arts Center.
Ferguson spent half a year trying to locate the marker and another six months raising money to restore it.
She said the Warner family is pleased to have the marker back in place.
