Boardman man charged with shooting his wife

BOARDMAN, Ohio- A Boardman man is in custody for allegedly shooting his wife in the basement of their home.

Christian Jaeger was arrested Wednesday after his wife, Andrea, was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to her left shoulder.

According to a police report, both Christian and Andrea Jaeger gave conflicting versions of what occurred, saying first that the .22 caliber rifle went off during cleaning, then that Christian had been shooting at a wall in the basement when a bullet ricocheted.

After questioning, Andrea Jaeger told police she had fabricated the previous stories to protect her husband.

Christian Jaeger reportedly told police that he did fire the gun at Andrea, but said he did not intend to harm her.

Both said he is mentally ill.

Jaeger is charged with felonious assault and domestic violence.
