WARREN, Ohio - Years ago Delphi-Packard generated more than two-million dollars a year in income tax for the city of Warren. But the bankrupt company has now left behind three vacant buildings that have been labeled a serious public safety threat.
Warren's chief building official has condemned the Dana and Griswold Street structures, ordering the Michigan based owner to tear them down.
Authorities say vandals have stripped more than 100-thousand dollars worth of copper from the buildings and ripped the wood paneling off the walls making all three buildings a fire hazard.
Another problem, one of the buildings is so old it has a wooden floor that officials say would ignite like a tinderbox.
Just days after DHP Holdings Corporation was notified that it had to demolish the condemned buildings, Mayor O'Brien was informed that someone is interested in buying the properties.
An an announcement about a new owner is expected in about three weeks.
