Youngstown Girl Dies in apparent drowning in Champion

CHAMPION, Ohio-A little girl from Youngstown is dead just days before she was to graduate from preschool.

It happened around 4:30 Sunday afternoon at Willow Lake Park in Champion.

Five year old Unique Moore was found unconscious in about three of water while people were actually looking for another child who was thought to be missing.

Witnesses at the scene weren't sure how long she had been underwater but they say Paramedics with the Champion Fire Department performed CPR on her for nearly 15 minutes.

Unique was initially transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Critical Condition but she was then flown to Akron children's hospital.

Then at 9:30 Monday morning, the Summit County Medical examiner announced that Unique passed away.

The Willow lake pool was featured in Guiness Book of Records as the world largest chlorinated concrete bottom swimming pool.

Sister Jerome Corcoran at Mill Creek Children's center says the five year old would have graduated on Friday. Sister was photographed with Unique for a Vindicator cover story on the school last July.

Sister Jerome says Unique frequently talked about her excitement to go to Kindergarten this fall

The medical examiner is still trying to determine the official cause of death. An autopsy is set to be performed on Tuesday.
