New Castle home owner arrested and jailed for not cleaning up her home

NEW CASTLE, Pennsylvania - A woman in New Castle was arrested and sentenced to 20 days in jail after code-enforcement officers said she refused to clean up her home.

According to officials, 75-year-old Gloria Suchonic was given the sentence after she failed to comply with a judge's order.

Officials said Suchonic had dozens of cats inside of her home.

People who live near the home on Maryland Avenue said they've complained about the home several times. "You need masks and suits to go in the house, it's full of fleas. The odor is overwhelming," said New Castle officer Anthony Cioffi.

"If that's what it takes for her to get rid of the animals and all that. She's had chances for years to clean up and she never did," Gino Ventura a neighbor,

Authorities said the home is a health hazard and is being demolished next week.

The cats were taken to the Lawrence County Humane Society.
