Salineville woman holds police at bay

SALINEVILLE, Ohio - A Salineville woman is in police custody after a three hour standoff Thursday night.

It all started shortly after 8:00 p.m. from inside a home on Haiti Road, just off of State Route 164 in Salineville.

Neighbors say Bonnie Mariner was breaking the windows.  One of them, Roger Buckley alerted authorities.

That's when Mariner pulled out a gun.  "She started firing at me and the neighbor right over here on the road," Buckley said.

Then the Columbiana County Sheriff's Department arrived.

Chief Deputy Allen Hauter said he asked Mariner to come out of the house.  "She says, 'Not gonna happen.' And she opened fire on us at that time and struck a house behind us," Hauter said.

Mariner then turned all the lights out in the house and held police at bay.

The county's SRT team was called in.  Officers entered the home just before 11:00 p.m., but Bonnie was nowhere to be found.  "Apparently she had gotten out of the house earlier and the highway patrol apprehended her somewhere up the roadway, apparently she did inflict injuries to herself," Hauter said.

Mariner was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and will eventually go to jail, facing multiple charges.

"Right now we're looking at attempted murder at the two guys in front. Her firing at law enforcement officers in front," Hauter said.
