NILES, Ohio - A Niles police officer has filed a lawsuit in federal court against the city and his former chief.
Robert Ludt filed the suit Friday claiming the city of Niles failed to enforce a noise ordinance.
Ludt also claims former chief Bruce Simeone instructed officers to ignore violations at McMenamy's on Route 422.
Ludt alleges Chief Simeone is a friend of McMenamy's owner Robert Leonard and issued a written reprimand to officer Ludt to discourage him from trying to enforce the noise ordinance.
Officer Ludt lives about a quarter of a mile from McMenamys, which has been the target of noise complaints over the past few years.
