BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Ohio - It brings a whole new meaning to the word moving. The mini mansion on the Firestone property in Beaver Township will soon have a new home.
"t's not everyday you see this. So yeah it's incredible. It's amazing," says neighbor April Ausustine.
The 4,000 square foot home, built in the 1880's for Harvey Firestone's sister, had to be moved to make room for an expansion of the Firestone testing facility.
The house had been passed down through family and friends, but eventually ended up vacant.
The company was prepared to tear the old house down to make room for the new construction until long time employee Eddy Erhardt asked for a chance to save it. Erhardt says, "It's just a blessing to see such a trophy of a home be saved. If you look at the detail of that house, it's just totally overwhelming."
Erhardt talked Tom Ellison of Tom Ellison Excavating into buying the house. Ellison had actually been hired to demolish it. Instead he bought it from Firestone for a dollar and paid to have it moved about a lie down the road to five acres he also purchased from the company. "You don't see these types of houses everyday. Firestone Corporation they maintained it over the years and it's pretty much as nice as the day it was built," Ellison said
It took about five hours to move the house and cost about twenty thousand dollars. Once the house reaches its final destination it will be put up for sale. The price tag is right around three hundred thousand dollars.
The home will need some remodeling but with six fireplaces, two staircases, and a unique history it's definitely one of a kind.
