Arrests made in Amish burglary and kidnapping case

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Four members of an Ohio Amish group have been arrested on kidnapping and burglary charges.

They're accused of forcing their way into the homes of Amish in another community and cutting off hair and beards.

The four suspects were brought to jail on Saturday. One of the men said they were following orders from an Amish community leader.

At first, the case could not be pursued because Amish community members refused to identify the suspects. Now, someone has come forward and the arrests were made.

Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said, "I'm elated they finally did that (come forward). Maybe well put a stop to some of this nonsense where they can climb in a car and drive 70-80 miles, break into someone's home and assault the people."

The men are being held on a quarter-million dollars cash bond. The sheriff says more arrests are likely.
