Holiday hiring in the Valley

NILES, Ohio  -  If you're unemployed and looking for work, you may find plenty of job opportunities at local stores that are preparing for the holiday shopping rush.

In fact, with just over 50 days until Christmas, Best Buy stores all over the country are hiring as well as Macy's and Toys R' Us.

The Best Buy in Niles has hired at least 27 seasonal employees in the last few weeks and some of them could be offered permanent employment opportunities after the holidays according to Niles Store Manager, Eric Newbrough.  "We actually just hired around 27 occasional - seasonal workers, that's almost double from last year.  Of course we'll probably need some of them after the season to stay on."

The sales manager at Best Buy says they're also still looking to hire a few more people and so is the clothing retailer Forever 21 that's located inside the Eastwood Mall. 

Store Manager Phyllis Altiero says, "I'm building up my staff right now, I've hired six people.  I still need to hire five or six more.  Because of the extended hours especially, your normal staff can't work all those hours."

The General Manager of the Eastwood Mall, Ken Kollar, says that the majority of the stores are hiring seasonal help to make sure they have enough people on staff to serve the needs of customers during retail's most profitable season.  "They'll do probably 40 to 50 percent of their business in the last two months of the year," Kollar said.
