YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A young couple is found murdered on Youngstown's west side and their infant child is found wrapped in a blanket, unharmed next to her mother's body.
Youngstown police responded to a 911 call at approximately 1:49 a.m. on Wednesday.
When they arrived at the home located at 2907 Mahoning Avenue they found 30-year-old Stephen Cortner shot to death on the bedroom floor and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Shanell Jackson on the bed. She also suffered a gunshot wound.
Two-month-old Olivia Cortner was immediately taken by ambulance to Akron Children's Hospital in Boardman to be examined by a doctor and now she's in the custody of Mahoning County Children's Services.
A cousin of the female victim, who did not want to be identified, says Jackson is a former Ursuline High School student who just completed classes to become certified nail tech.
Police detectives are following up on leads and have several people they want to question.
21 News has learned that police were called to the Mahoning Avenue residence back in September when someone reported three men with guns arguing as they entered the home.
And as police search for answers, a young child will be forced to live without her mother. Ironically family members say Jackson lost her own mother in a similar circumstance.
