Lake Milton teen killed when a car hits his bike

LAKE MILTON, Ohio - The highway patrol is investigating a fatal bicycle accident that killed a Lake Milton teen Thursday night.

It happened on Mahoning Avenue right in front of the Milton Township Police Station.

State police say the bicyclist and the driver of a white car were traveling westbound toward Lake Milton when the car hit the young man on the bike throwing him up against the windshield and then onto the pavement.

The bicyclist, 18-year-old Derek Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was not injured.

"The bicyclist had a light on the bike, but it was on the front. We haven't found a light for the rear. The driver of the vehicle states he did not see the bike until after he made contact with it," said Sergeant Tim Timberlake from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Alcohol is not suspected in the crash. Police are still investigating the incident.
