Columbiana County crash kills three

NEGLEY, Ohio - Three people are dead after a single-car crash in Columbiana County.

The crash happened on a dark, narrow country road, and the victims were all under 25 years of age.

A small cross now marks the scene where the victim's car ended up wrapped around a tree on Dyke Road south of Negley. State Trooper Sergeant Troy Homirghausen said it happened just before 10:00 p.m. Monday.

"They came upon a rough curve and they failed to negotiate that curve, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. All three occupants of the vehicle were killed upon impact," Hormirghausen said.

The victims were identified as the driver 19-year-old Cierra Burns of Negley, 23-year-old Jonathan Welsh of Elkton and 24-year-old Joshua Carlin of Negley.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said there was no indication of alcohol use, but says that remains under investigation along with the estimated speed of the vehicle.

The patrol says none of the three were wearing seat-belts.
