UPDATE: Allegiant plane skids off runway at Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport

VIENNA, Ohio - Monday nights heavy snowfall not only caused problems on area roadways, they also apparently caused some problems on area runways.

A plane carrying about 150 passengers flew into the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, landed, and then skidded off the runway into the grass and mud.

The Allegiant Air MD-83 aircraft was flying in from St. Petersburg, Florida on runway 32.

Airport officials say the plane taxied off the runway onto the taxiway, but turned too wide and went off the taxiway. The nose gear and the left main gear went into the grass and got stuck in the mud.

Passengers of the packed flight were uninjured and were taken off the plane and were driven by car back to the terminal.

Dennis Wesolek of Butler said "The plane made a nice landing, but as it went to turn it just slid off and the left side wheels are down off the taxiway and into the grass the sunk down pretty good."

Passenger Jake Young said, "You didn't feel it at all.  It was a nice landing, even the hostess said it was a very smooth landing in the snow."

Passengers were left waiting for the their luggage, including their carry ons which had the be left on the plane.

Meanwhile, inside the terminal, people waiting to get on the plane to go to St. Pete were told the flight would be delayed until sometime Tuesday. Those passengers will now be transported to Pittsburgh and depart at noon.

Some passengers joked that the mishap wasn't the worst thing to have happened to them on this night.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
