Suspect in slaying of reality star's brother sentenced

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The man who shot and killed the brother of a local reality TV star could spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Twenty-two-year-old Marco Cardenas pled guilty to killing his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend, Jack Manigault, back in October of last year.

Cardenas was sentenced to 21 years to life in prison.

Manigault, brother of The Apprentice contestant Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth, was in bed asleep when the shooting occurred.

Omarosa's attorney said they agreed with the plea deal to spare the family a trial.

"The shock of it is still there.   And quite frankly the decision was to resolve this matter without a trial because going through a trial at this point would just be too painful. He leaves young children, he leaves a mom, he leaves his siblings and it would just be too hard," said Susan Maruca the families attorney.

Cardenas will likely face additional time in prison because he was on probation for receiving stolen property at the time of the shooting.
