Lloyd McCoy Memorial Football Game

WARREN, Ohio - The 4th annual Lloyd McCoy Memorial Football Game took place at Warren Harding High School on Saturday.

The football game is dedicated to the memory of Lloyd McCoy, Jr.

In 2009, the 11-year-old, who loved football, was killed in a drive by shooting while sleeping on a couch at his sister's home on Wick Avenue.

The game on brought out NFL player, Chris Rucker, who plays for the Indianapolis Colts, and free agent Sidney Glover.

Lloyd's mother, Pamela McCoy, was brought to tears when she was given hugs by the players and a gift by the organizer of the event. She says it's amazing how many kids come out each year to play the sport her son loved, and to honor his memory. She says it makes her heart swell to see how many kids come out and participate.

The coordinator for the event, Jordan Simmons, tells 21 News this game is all about honoring the memory of his cousin who loved life and football.

Simmons says this is all about violence prevention. That everyone needs to put their weapons down and take a stand. He adds we don't need to have these deaths that are uncalled for. Simmons says McCoy lost his life because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Councilman Bob Dean and Harding High Coach Steve Arnold were field officials for the game.

McCoy's mom says this is a way to make a difference in her son's memory. She also hopes younger kids will take part in next year's free event.
