SEBRING, Ohio- A local company could help put an end to your need to wipe down and sanitize shopping carts when you go into a grocery store.
They look like little playhouses but they're actually high tech units that help clean shopping carts and wheelchairs or hospital beds without ever touching them.
The New Tec corporation in Sebring is developing disinfecting units for hospitals and sanitizing units for grocery stores.
UltraViolet light and special gases kills all germs and viruses on the carts and wheelchairs in just seconds.
Richard Fletcher from the New Tec Corporation says, "It's been a process that's been around but we've enhanced it 9x its strength that's where we're a little but different there's no chemicals there's no drains or water nothing it's a dry process on both sanitizer and distinfecting units."
But New Tec owners say they need some financial help to make their products a reality. Costs to cover EPA regulations, patent rights and equipment.
They say you have to go through a lot of red tape to become successful. They invited Congressman Bill Johnson to tour the factory and ask for legislative help.
Rep. Bill Johnson says "There's so much uncertainty out there right now between regulatory over burden and tax hikes that may go into effect at the end of the year if the senate doesn't act all kinds of uncertainty being created that's making it tough for small businesses to get started."
Johnson says it's tough for small businesses to get banks to provide loans to get their new products off the drawing board. He says legislation to help small businesses remain stalled in the U.S. Senate.
New Tec says they have many hospitals, nursing homes and grocery chains interested in their units.
They say once they get into full production it could mean up to 230 new jobs for the area.
