Area stores report shortage of power generators

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - If you're looking for a backup generator in preparation for the weather we are getting as a result of Hurricane Sandy, you probably won't find many anywhere in the Mahoning or Trumbull counties.

A number of stores that sell backup generators have already been sold out for several days.

Officials at True Value in Trumbull County say that their warehouse was completely out of generators as of Sunday evening.

All Home Depot locations in both counties have already sold out of their generators as of Monday morning.

Not only are residents stocking up, but a number of out-state customers have purchased generators from stores in the Valley.

Sears in Boardman has sold some generators to a number of New Jersey residents as well as Lowe's in Warren.

The shortage is not completely across the board though.

As of Monday, Do-Cut True Value Hardware said they have several dozen in stock but are warning that the generators are "selling like hotcakes.:

Austintown Pawn said they have about three or four backup generators available for purchase as well.
