Businesses host food drives for Project: Feed Our Valley

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Thanksgiving is just days away and while some look forward to indulging, others worry about just getting by.

Sparkle Markets are making a difference by offering collection sites at its stores for Project: Feed Our Valley and other local businesses have made an effort to step up to help the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.

Great Clips' 13 salons across the valley are encouraging customers to donate in exchange for $2 off their next haircut.

"We're hoping to collect quite a few boxes again this year and last year, even after the time frame that we gave, we still collected it and took it down," said Amanda Carr, manager at Great Clips Cortland location.

A group of 13 doctors and clinics with the Eastern Ohio Chiropractic Society are combining their efforts this year to collect 5,000 pounds of food.

"One gentleman brought in 10 bags of food and donated them and they're doing it because they're using us as an outlet to be giving," said Dr. Patrick Ensminger, Trumbull County Chiropractic.

As a thank you to those who donate through Wednesday, the doctors will offer a chiropractic consultation and health history at no cost.

Donations can be dropped off at Trumbull County Chiropractic through Wednesday at 3635 Elm Roard in Warren. Click here for a list of foodbank pantry needs.

Dr. Ensminger says it's easy to help and advises businesses to start by contacting the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, request boxes to store donations and then, spread the word.

"Which means that you should mail your customer base, you should alert the media, in case they would like to help the community to know that you're doing this," Dr. Ensminger said.
