YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Cleveland-based, MedWorks, hopes to make its mark on the Mahoning Valley.  The organization, which aims at improving access to healthcare for Ohio's uninsured and under-insured, is set to host its first-ever clinic in the Youngstown area.

"We have done these several times in the greater Cleveland area with a huge response, where we are able to offer free medical care for the uninsured and underinsured," said MedWorks executive director Carrie Clark.

The non-profit, which has hosted more than 20 clinics since it was established in 2009, has partnered with the Youngstown Community Health Center in hopes of establishing a long-term relationship.

"It is our hope that we will be able to provide continuing care to people who come who don't have insurance or who are under insured who haven't seen a doctor for a long time.  They will come in.  They will be treated initially then they will be referred to us," said Robert Padgett with the Youngstown Community Health Center.

On Saturday, patients who stop by the clinic will be treated to a full exam.  Volunteer doctors and nurses will spend the day performing physicals, dental screenings and lab work.  Results will be given to the patient that same day.

"This works so well for bringing people in who aren't typically accessing the healthcare.  So, we really do hope that this is a partnership that will continue and that we will be able to provide care to the people of Youngstown," said Clark.

MedWorks' free health clinic will take place at the Youngstown Community Health Center, which is located at 726 Wick Avenue in Youngstown.  The event runs from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  It is open to everyone. To make an appointment, call 330-259-1424.
