McKinley birthplace museum offers President's Day tours
NILES, Ohio - Visitors were welcomed to the birthplace of our nation's 25th president Monday in Niles.
President William McKinley was born into a family who leased an iron foundry in the city back in 1843.
A replica of his birthplace was open for guests, which is just a block away from the McKinley Memorial Library.
"They can learn a little bit about his life and see some of the items associated with the president," Patrick Finan says, McKinley Memorial Library director.
Canes the president used, portraits and president campaign swag are among the items on display at the birthplace museum.
"He was probably the first United States President that used a lot of the political campaign stuff that we consider very important today," Finan says.
McKinley's political career includes serving as a member in the House of Representatives and Congress. McKinley held two terms as Ohio Governor before his presidency.
