Columbiana County deputies discover Amish kegger

The Columbiana County Sheriff's department broke up an apparent keg party held by members of the Amish community.

Two deputies on routine patrol spotted two Amish wagons parked along Meyers road on Saturday.

Upon further investigation, they noticed that men were trying to conceal two horses.

When the deputies followed the sound of music coming from the woods, they found 80 people gathered.

The group had a generator hooked up to lights, a car battery to power a radio and alcohol.

Deputies say the party goers were members of Amish communities from Carroll, Ashtabula, Geauga, Guernsey and Jefferson counties..

Deputies say about 20 people ran away.

Those who remained were taken home by guests who were sober and acted as designated drivers. Others in attendance were taken home by “taxis”, which is the name for people hired by the Amish to drive them around.

No one was charged.
