ROOTSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a passenger train traveling through northeast Ohio struck and killed a man as he walked along railroad tracks just south of Ravenna.

A coroner's investigator says 53-year-old Tim Freeland often walked the tracks to get to work. He was struck shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday in Rootstown, about 45 miles southeast of downtown Cleveland.

The investigator says the locomotive engineer blew the Amtrak train's horn when he saw Freeland and that Freeland waved. The investigator surmised that Freeland may have thought the train was headed north. The train that struck him was southbound.

No one aboard the train was injured. It was held at the accident scene for about three hours.
