After more than thirty years in the valley the Hands On Volunteer Network has announced it is permanently closing local operations.
At a Monday news conference agency leaders said advances in technology and social media have reduced the need for its mission of connecting volunteers with non-profit organizations.
"We see people becoming stronger in their ability to think about where they want to volunteer and also for agencies to attract those volunteers," said Maureen Drummond, Executive Director of the Hands on Valley Network.
That changing landscape of volunteerism has also made consistent funding a challenge and very difficult to continue raising money for the local operation.
