Workers at Bazetta Kmart warehouse taking strike vote

Employees at the Kmart Distribution Center in Bazetta Township will vote this week to decide if they want to give negotiators authorization to call a strike if necessary.

The 250 employees, who are members of UAW Local 1112, will cast their votes Thursday from 7 a.m. Until 7 p.m., at the UAW union hall in Lordstown.

UAW President Glenn Johnson tells 21 News that negotiations have failed to come up with a new contract to replace the pact that expires early Wednesday morning.

Johnson says workers will stay on the job, working under terms of the old contract on a day-to-day basis while negotiations continue.

The union would not discuss issues that remain on the bargaining table.
