A Lisbon man has been sentenced to two years in prison and must register as a sex offender for inappropriate behavior with a 12-year-old girl.
Twenty-eight-year-old Douglas Brayshaw, Jr. of Lisbon tried to withdraw an earlier guilty plea to charges of importuning and disseminating materials harmful to juveniles, but Judge C. Ashley Pike refused to throw out Brayshaw's plea.
Ohio law defines importuning as soliciting a person less than thirteen years of age to engage in sexual activity.
The prosecutor says in the summer of 2015 Brayshaw was 26 when he met a 12-year-old at East Palestine Park.
The child's mother found out about the relationship and told them to stop.
On Labor Day, the young girl showed her mother texts and Facebook messages from Douglas Brayshaw allegedly asking her for sex. One included a photo of male genitalia.
Assistant Columbiana County Prosecutor Tim McNicol told 21 News that he is pleased that the victim was not required to testify in the case.
After Brayshaw completes his prison term, he must register as a tier one sex offender for the next 15 years.
