A Hubbard woman is getting some long overdue recognition for her efforts during World War II.

One-hundred-nine-year-old, yes, you read that right, 109-year-old Nellie Beach was given a special certificate from Congressman Tim Ryan Monday.

She was a certified underwater welder on barges and ships from 1941 through 1945.

Nellie is a resident at Elmwood Assisted Living in Hubbard.

Nellie has four children and she says she has over fifty grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
