Wellsville Tigers | Players: 35 | Offense: 8 | Defense: 7 | Seniors: 7

The Wellsville football program went through a learning curve last year with head coach Robert Ramsey.

The acclimation period is over and with nearly all of the starters returning, the Tigers are hoping to improve on a three-win season.

Coach Robert Ramsey is counting on that experienced group will have to lead the way.  "Last year was a big learning year. We had only four returners last year. We got 17 back from last year. Our attention to detail, what we're doing in the offseason and the kids working out, they're doing a good job." said coach Ramsey.

Of the 17 returners, the team retains all five of its lineman and its feature tailback.

"Our big guy that we're going to count on in the backfield is Derrick Suggs. He finished the year unbelievable you know; 507 total yards against Toronto in week 10 and he had 384 of those on the ground. We're looking for him to lead us in the backfield,"  Ramsey said.

Another returner on offense, Troy Carter, the second-year quarterback will be at the helm once again for the Tigers.   "We got our quarterback who will be a sophomore this year who started as a 13-year-old starter against Beaver Local so we're counting on him to mature a lot and get things going for us,"  Ramsey said.

Coach Ramsey has high expectations for this group but he believes success will ultimately come down to hard work.

"Attention to detail. Learn the respect of the game and play hard, play together.  That is the name of the game, just put everything out on the field on Friday night and don't leave anything out there and results will come for us," Ramsey said.

The Tigers kick off the season on Thursday night August 23rd at home against Beaver Local.
