Boardman pharmacy business eliminates hassle from prescriptions

For patients with several medical conditions, sorting through prescriptions can be a hassle.

But a Boardman business has developed a method that takes the guesswork and counting out of medicine.

Accudose Pharmacy is a company following a relatively modern style of filling prescriptions.

Rather than having patients opening several pill bottles a day, or relying on hard to open pill containers, Accudose prepackages prescriptions into ouches that separate pills based on the time of day they are supposed to be taken.

The labeling serves as an easy way to remember if doses have been taken.

"You just rip off the pouch, open it, and take them," explained Accudose's Director of Pharmacy David Noday.

The individual packaging means medicines become more portable and overall easier to take.

"It works really well for patients who have a few prescriptions," said Noday.

Accudose separates medicines into morning, afternoon, evening, and bedtime doses, based on each patient's individual needs.

While the company primarily serves those in facilities, assisted living care situations, and those with home health aides, they do accept patients who are still living at home.

"We'll fill for anyone, any age."

Which means Accudose can help those who act as caretakers for parents or family members to help keep track of dosage in an easier way.

"If you come over to give your parents medication or someone you take care of it's all spelled out for you," said Noday.  "You don't have to make a list on a steno notepad, or have all your vials out, it's already there for you."

Once the prescriptions are packaged, they're shipped out and delivered directly to the patient's door. Accudose currently ships to patients all across Ohio and Pennsylvania.

For the sake of security, the packaging is discreet.

Once the medications are delivered, the relationship continues.

"We give a follow-up phone call, to make sure you received your package if you have any questions about it if you understand how to take the medication," Noday explained. "And at that time we tell the patient we'll call in three weeks, about a week before your next box ships out and make sure it's ok that we fill that prescription."

In addition, Accudose has call lines, with pharmacists available to answer any questions.

And Accudose will even help patients who want to switch over.

Noday explained, "Just call us, tell us which pharmacy you use, we'll handle the registration over the phone. Tell us your PCP, your primary care physician, and we'll call and get your information set up. Things that don't have refills we'll call your primary care physician and get new prescriptions, we'll call you back to make sure it's ok that we fill them, and then we send them out, it's as simple as that."

Accudose is covered through most insurances in the way that chain pharmacies are, even with the addition of delivery service.
