Emergency responders and hospital workers in Mahoning and Trumbull counties worked together Thursday to test their skills in an active shooter training exercise.

It all started at St. Patrick's Parish Center in Hubbard and ended at St. Elizabeth in Youngstown.

The scenario involved an active shooter at the parish center, which ended up flooding the trauma center with casualties.

The training helped everyone from local police to local doctors and nurses.

"With the recent unfortunate closing of Northside Hospital, we wanted to test our mass surge capacity. Anyone with critical trauma has to come here, so we want to make sure we are able to handle those capabilities," said Mercy Health Police Chief Ryan Bonacci.

Over 0 people took part in the shooter drill.

Saint Elizabeth in Youngstown is the only level one trauma center located between Cleveland and Pittsburgh.
