It was a day to remember for an eight-year-old Youngstown boy.

A little more than a month after getting hit while riding his bike and the car driving off, firefighters surprised him with a brand new bike.

Jenciel Falero said it was heroes who answered the call August 27 when he was injured while on his bike during a hit and run.

"I got hit by a car on a bike that didn't have brakes," said Jenciel.

"We found the boy laying face down in the middle of the road. His bicycle a few feet away from him just mangled and destroyed," said Captain Tony Burnett of the Youngstown Fire Department.

Firefighter Shaun Rosan heard the story and knew he had to do something.

"I remember being an eight-year-old boy. My bicycle was my world and I never grew out of that," said Rosan as he pointed to his motorcycle.

Rosan, other firefighters, and the Axemen Motorcycle Club decided to chip in to buy Jenciel a new bike decked out in his favorite color green.

He gave the new wheels a spin, teaching everyone there a lesson on bravery.

"I'm not going to let me getting hit by a car hold me back from doing something fun. I'm going to try to face my fears and ride a bike," said Jenciel.

Jenciel is now doing well and has had his stitches taken out.
