Chaney High School Freshman Academy students presented a check to the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center this week.
Students and staff raised more than $700 for the center through the "YCSD Goes Pink" campaign. Through the campaign, school district employees bought t-shirts bearing the Goes Pink slogan that corresponds to their school.
Chaney employees' shirts read "Chaney Goes Pink," for example, while central office employees' shirts read, "YCSD Goes Pink."
When students presented the check on Monday, center staff led them on a tour, where they learned about the different treatments and technology used to help patients.
The effort enabled students to give back to their community and to see how their donations will be used.
The is the second year that Chaney Ninth-Grade Academy students toured the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center on Belmont Avenue.
