A crash on Route 11 involving a Vienna Township police cruiser took place around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.
According to authorities, a Vienna Township Police Ford Explorer was stopped in traffic with its emergency lights on. The police cruiser was reportedly investigating a two-car crash on SR 11 in the northbound left lane.
An SUV heading northbound on SR 11 was in the left lane and hit the police cruiser in the back.
The officer driving the police cruiser, 29-year-old Scot Pringle, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Warren.
Police said that the driver of the second vehicle, 65-year-old Donald L. Getz, suffered from serious injuries and was taken to St. Elizabeth's hospital.
Getz was charged with Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence and Assured Clear Distance Ahead.
Traffic was backed up for quite some time in the Northbound lane while crews tended to the wrecked vehicles.
The road has since re-opened.
