The city of Youngstown and JAC Management have announced the hiring of a community engagement and inclusion coordinator.

According to a release, the position's purpose is to connect the community to the amphitheater and riverfront park actively.

Derrick McDowell was hired for the position and assumed the role immediately.

McDowell will be responsible for connecting area residents on a grassroots level that includes gathering community feedback and creating sustainable programming.

The release said he would work closely with community groups, churches, neighborhood associations, and other organizations.

Included in the hiring committee was JAC Management president Eric Ryan who will manage the park and amphitheater.

Ryan said, "The committee strived to find a candidate who could effectively serve a diverse population, and we are excited Derrick was chosen to fill this role. Our common goal is to engage and include the community as a whole, and our JAC team is excited to work with him."

"I am looking forward to engaging the community and cultivating their participation in this all-inclusive 22-acre community complex," McDowell said.
