Memorial Day Weekend events

Memorial day events in the unofficial start of summer in the Valley. Veterans and other groups are planning memorial services, parades and other events.

Below is a schedule of those events as compiled by 21 News.

MAHONING COUNTY

Austintown

Parade – 10 a.m. Monday – From Marcs on Mahoning Avenue to Fitch High School

Beaver Township

Parade and ceremony – 11 a.m., Monday – Police say there will be traffic delays at the main intersections in the center of North Lima in the areas of State Routes 164, 165, and 7.

Boardman

Parade and memorial service – 10 a.m., Monday – From Boardman Center Intermediate School, 7410 Market Street. In the event of rain, the service will be held in the school.

Canfield

Memorial services – 10 a.m., Monday – Gazebo on the Village Green followed by a procession to the Canfield East Cemetery for a second ceremony. Participants will go to the War Vets Museum to honor those listed on the Wall of Honor.

New Middletown

Parade – 9:30 a.m., Monday – From the old elementary school on Main Street to the high school where there will be a service at the Veterans Memorial.

North Jackson

Parade – 9 a.m. Monday – From the Vietnam Memorial at Jackson-Milton Community Stadium on Mahoning Avenue and proceed to the North Jackson Cemetery on State Route 45.

Poland

Grave decoration – 9 a.m. Saturday – Poland Riverside Cemetery. Organizations will place flags on the graves of U.S. Military Veterans.

Ceremonies – 9:15 a.m. Monday – War Memorial, 35 Cortland Street and on the Main Street Bridge to honor those lost at sea.

Parade – 10 a.m., Monday – From American Legion Post 15, 35 Cortland St., to Riverside Cemetery.

TRUMBULL COUNTY

Brookfield

Procession and ceremony – 10 a.m., Monday – Begins on Grove Street and moves to the cemetery and Veteran's Memorial. Service scheduled for 10:20 a.m.

Girard

Services – 11 a.m., Monday – Girard Liberty Union Cemetery, North Stat Street. Observance includes a flag raising, a reading of biographies of deceased veterans and the Gettysburg Address. There will be a rifle salute, bagpiper, and placing of a wreath.

Howland

Service – 10 a.m., Monday - Howland Township Cemetery on state Route 46. Guest speaker will be Mike Wilson, with his depiction of President William McKinley. Following the service, the American Legion Post 700 will host an open house at 8273 High St.

MERCER COUNTY

Mercer

Memorial Day 500 – Monday

8:00 a.m. - Veteran Breakfast begins

8:00 - 5k Registration

8:30 - 5k Race

9:00 - Chris Higbee will sing

9:30- Ceremony for honorees will begin

10:00 - Chris Higbee performs again

10:30 - Ceremony at the Old Mercer Graveyard

11:00 - Memorial parade down Pitt street at 11am which leads to the Memorial Day salute ceremony at noon at the Citizen’s Cemetery.

Sharon

National Button Accordion Festival – Friday through Sunday, Apollo Maennerchor, 291 S. Dock St.

5 – 10 p.m., Friday – Dancing and music

Noon – 10 p.m., Saturday – Dancing and music

Noon – 9 p.m. Sunday – Dancing and music with concert at 12:30 p.m.

COLUMBIANA COUNTY

Salem

Veterans breakfast – 7:45 a.m., Monday – St. Paul School

Service – 9 a.m., Monday – Village Green

Procession – 10 a.m., Monday – From Village Green to Grandview Cemetery.

Salineville

Parade – 8:30 a.m., Monday – Begins at the American Legion and continues to the Memorial.

Guest Speaker – 9:30 a.m. Monday – Catholic Cemetery

Services – 10:30 a.m, Monday – Woodland Cemetery
