The Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center (TBEIC) hosted local officials today to formally announce a partnership with a hydrogen car company.

That company, Hyperion Motors, is based out of Orange, California and is currently in the process of developing a car that is capable of driving 400 miles and refueling in just three minutes.

Hyperion gave a presentation of the vehicle, signed a client engagement letter to officially set up shop in Warren and spoke on their desire to set up a division in the Mahoning Valley during an event at the TBEIC.

The CEO of Hyperion Motors, Angelo Kafantaris, is a Mahoning Valley-native originally from Warren, Ohio.

"Hyperion Motors wants to be here because of the technology ecosystem that is emerging in the Mahoning Valley. Being on the forefront of Additive Manufacturing with YBI and America Makes and Energy Storage and IoT with TBEIC we have an opportunity to continue positioning ourselves as a great place to develop technology companies," said Rick Stockburger, president, and CEO of TBEIC.

Valley Congressman Tim Ryan said this kind of deal is exactly why the TBEIC was established.

"Hyperion Motors has a product that has the potential to create an earthquake in the automotive industry. I applaud Hyperion Motors CEO Angelo Kafantaris and TBEIC President and CEO Rick Stockburger for bringing this company to the Mahoning Valley. This type of deal is exactly why we broke ground on TBEIC nine years ago and invested in green energy innovation and entrepreneurship. Every day we're attracting more and more startups to the Mahoning Valley, spurring job creation, and changing the trajectory of traditional manufacturing.

I look forward to seeing the growth of Hyperion Motors and am excited for TBEIC to continue making waves in the Valley," said Ryan.
