A Youngstown man is in the hospital after he was shot during a confrontation with police and State Troopers in Boardman early Saturday.

Police say 52-year-old Stephen B. Wilson was shot shortly after midnight on Market Street near Meadowbrook.

Answering a call that someone was firing a gun in the middle of the road, a township officer says Wilson refused to drop the weapon.

As a  state trooper and other officers rushed to the spot to help out, police say Wilson continued walking, still ignoring orders to drop the gun.

According to police, officers shot Wilson.  Police say they administered first aid until EMTs could take him to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of a wound that police say is not life-threatening. Wilson's condition was last listed as stable.

At the time of the shooting, there were six officers from the Boardman Township Police Department and four troopers on scene. No officers were injured.

Police say the incident remains under investigation and charges on the suspect are pending.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was contacted and responded to the scene.

The Boardman Township Police Department will conduct a joint investigation of the incident, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
