Trumbull County Children's Services are investigating after Warren police say a child wandered from a house where officers found feces, old food, and bugs.
According to a police report, a five-year-old girl was walking in the roadway on Charles Avenue on Monday evening. Although the girl said she didn't know how to get home, police eventually found that she lived up the street.
Finding an open door, officers went inside where they say they found toys and clothing strewn throughout the living room, as well as old food, bugs, and “filth” in the rest of the home. Police also report finding cats and feces in the house.
In a backroom police say they found a small girl sleeping with bugs, police say.
Once upstairs, the officer found a toddler sleeping in a bed and three more children, including a 14-year-old boy playing video games. One of the children was sleeping on a heavily stained mattress with no sheets, according to police.
The teen told police that his mother left home five minutes before to pick up some fast food for the children.
Police are still investigating. As of Tuesday morning, no charges had been filed in Warren Municipal Court.
